Istituto Oikos is a non-profit organisation that operates in Europe and in the South of the world to safeguard biodiversity and to promote the widespread adoption of more sustainable lifestyles

Aims and activities 

Istituto Oikos's work focuses on four main sectors: WATER, providing water supply systems in farwaway areas; BIODIVERSITY, safeguarding endangered species and fragile environments; SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES, supporting social business and a more inclusive economic model; CLIMATE and ENERGY, developing adaptation and mitigation strategies in front of the negative effects of climate change. Every project also includes educational activities and awareness campaigns, in order to promote a culture of sustainability.

Projects and activities involving young people 

SAME WORLD: participatory classes, educational workshops and an international contest for secondary schools to talk to students about climate change and environmental justice

WET-BRIDGE: educational activities with primary and secondary schools including classes and trips to the wetlands rehabilitated in the Varese Province

MAKERS OF THE FUTURE: educational paths for students and teachers in secondary schools to get to know the UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals

OLONA ECOSYSTEM: training courses, laboratories and walks across green areas to get in touch with delicate and endangered local ecosystems
